Mu Zhai Library

In 1927, Lu Mu Zhai, former Chief Executive for Education of the Qing Dynasty, donated 100,000 yuan for the construction of Mu Zhai Library. The new Library was inaugurated in October of the following year, serving as an independent building for Nankai University Library. The Library thus entered a new stage of development. In July 1937, the campus was bombed by the Japanese army and Mu Zhai Library was destroyed. Nankai University had to retreat southward and successively participated in the establishment of the National Changsha Temporary University and the National Southwest Associated University. The Library was jointly operated with other universities.
